Attorney Profile


      Attorney Joseph F. deMello received a B.S. degree in Business Management, summa cum laude from Bryant University and obtained his Juris Doctorate Degree, cum laude from the New England School of Law, Boston, in 1985. He was sworn as a member of the Massachusetts Bar and has been licensed to practice in Massachusetts Federal District Court since 1985.


In 1986, he established the Law Office of Joseph F. deMello in Taunton, MA. Thereafter to serve the New Bedford area, his law office was opened on Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, and a third office was opened in Fall River to further serve the  area.


He has been affiliated with various professional organizations.  He was past president of the Taunton Bar Association and a founding member and first president of the Portuguese American Bar Association.  He is a member of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys and since 2004 has been a Member of the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), Massachusetts Chapter. He has served as the Chairman of the Historic District Commission for  City of Taunton for over a decade.


Attorney deMello is fluent in the Portuguese language. He served as the First Chairman/President of the International Sister Cities Program between Taunton, Massachusetts, and Angra, Terceira, Portugal.  He participated as a member in the Commission for Justice Across the Atlantic, an international organization promoting the discussion of legal  issues between United States and Portugal. He is a founding member and first president of the Portuguese American Bar Association. He has served as the State Council president and  Taunton Chapter president of the Prince Henry Society of Massachusetts and was awarded the Person of the Year award by that organization.
